LIBRARY MISSION STATEMENT

 

The mission of the LaChance Library is to support scholarship, student development and success, and civic engagement by providing students, faculty, staff and the extended community with:

  • outstanding service and comprehensive access to a broad range of authoritative, up-to-date learning resources in a variety of formats;
  • instruction in effective ways to seek and evaluate information; an environment in which learning can flourish; and
  • activities and programs that enrich the quality of individual and community life.

The LaChance Library subscribes to the American Library Association Code of Ethics.

LIBRARY ETIQUETTE

While you are in the library, you are expected to:

  • Speak quietly and respectfully
  • Silence your phones and take calls outside
  • Use headphones with all electronics at a volume only you can hear
  • Clean up after yourself
  • Keep food to a minimum–snacks and covered drinks only
  • Protect your personal belongings
  • Follow STUDY ZONE guidelines

Jess Mynes Jess strives to develop and refine library services so that library patrons can have the transformative experience of realizing that our vast and diverse world is more accessible than we think. A lock of Emily Dickinson’s bright red hair, spicy cumin squash pickles, and the Patriot Act are three things that impassioned Jess’s desire to become a librarian. Chris previously worked in a fisheries/oceanography library and a financial library. She also worked as a medical transcriptionist and as a research technician for UMass Medical School. She is looking forward to helping students find the information they need.

Carla welcomes you to explore all the Library has to offer. She administers and directs the operation of the Circulation Department and monitors policies and procedures related to borrowing, course reserves and resource sharing with other libraries.

Linda has oversight of all general circula‚Äčtion procedures during the Library’s evening hours. With a BA in English Literature from Smith College, she got her start at MWCC with an Associate of Liberal Arts. Linda is customer-service oriented and a life-long lover of libraries.

Ellen travels to MWCC’s satellite campuses providing library instruction and research help to students. When Ellen isn’t busy teaching students that Google’s PageRank is not the same as relevance, you might find her operating a skill crane or sewing machine, walking a wooded trail, sandy shore, or city street, or learning something new.

Matt is a reference librarian who has worked at a law library, an archive and a college library teaching users how to find the best information. He spends his free time watching too much TV, reading too many books & writing reviews for all of it. His favorite databases are Academic Search Premier, JSTOR and NoveList.

As a reference librarian, Bonnie is available to help both new and experienced library users find information that will meet their needs. Bonnie likes research and teaching, as well as reading, sewing, swimming, and sports.
